My Win98 has gotten too buggy. I have a HP Pavilion that came with a restore disc and no Win98SE disc. I really don't want to wipe out evrything and start over. My question; is it possible to use another Win98SE disc to aid in repair of mine? Amazon has complete Win98SE disc for $46. Isn't there repair utilities on the disc to help fix problems?

You could try attacking the "buggy things" one at a time...A fresh install will a whole lot more good then a repair install.

you can reinstall windows 98 with little issues
with xp you can wipe out your desktop and documents
with windows 98 it will keep all
some of the time it will fix your problems sometimes not
it will not hurt to try
    your drivers will be kept
    run scans for spyware
go into the windows > temp folder and clear it
run the disk cleanup utility in the system tools menu

I would not use the restore disk unless I knew exactly what it did!

Some of these put it back to factory and you lose all documents email internet setting etc. Some my keep the documents but lose the other etc.

    Answer to your question,
Yes using this disk it would be possible to do and overlay (repair install) of 98 without losing these things.

Even if you had the 98 CD you should try to fix any obvious problems or they could effect the install anyway.

    Do some cleanup first.

Go thru Add/remove programs and remove all old or unused programs before doing the below.

Download install and run Diskcleaner http://www.diskcleaner.nl/download.php

    Same for CCleaner http://www.ccleaner.com/download/builds
get the Slim ver run temp and registry multiple times until no more found

    Use Startup control panel http://www.mlin.net/StartupCPL.shtml
Cleanup any start ups that you do not use.

Ok great. I've got several things to try. Right now I'm on my laptop. My Win98 machine just decided it won't connect to the internet. Never a dull moment.
