I recently needed to reformat hard drive and reinstall XP Pro, which went well (knock wood). I have done updates for XP and Office (2003) and have everything up and running *except* Outlook Express.

I find that I did not follow the recommended procedure in backing up OE. Instead of going into OE and using the Export function, I used a backup utility (Argentum Backup) that was to have saved the appropriate folders for easy restoration.

What I have backed up are:

    Documents and Settings/[user name]/Local Settings/Application Data/Identities/{###......}/Microsoft/Outlook Express

    and

    Documents and Settings/[user name]/Application Data/Microsoft/Address Book/[user name].wab

I can see the various .dbx folders (Inbox, Outbox, personal folders that I have created) inside the Outlook Express folder, so I figure there should be some way to restore them, but I can't figure out how.

I have not set up a Mail Account yet. Not certain whether or not I should do so and import into that account.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Does it also have an easy restore function?

But, create the mail account and up OE's import function and dill down to the two folders you mentioned.
