   What is the best way to retrieve files that are lost or corrupted in XP? I've tried SFC, but it doesnt search every windows file.
   
   I cant really do a complete reinstall of the OS at this point either

   Repair XP - plenty of posts on that subject on the board.

   And sfc (as the name "System File Checker" indicates) only does system files.
