Backround: PC hard drive crashed, had a 2 month-old backup (ghost image) of the hard drive. Recovered all data from crashed drive (partition was overwritten by mistake, so not a physical fault). Entire hard drive, paths and all, are on an external hard drive with everything intact.

The re-image from the 2 month old backup went smoothly, but now all my e-mail in between is on the external drive from the recovery process.

Simply copying the profiles directory back into place did not work. I had to create a new profile and then transfer the mail folder back.

Problem is now the secondary e-mail contained in my original profile is not there.

Where is this stored in the netscape tree?

The original profile had my e-mail as the primary, and I created a secondary e-mail (to monitor my daughter's e-mail) within my account. In mail, her account showed up enar the bottom of the left hand pane, after all of my mail folders. I cannot find it on the external drive... any help?

    Thanks....

You are not saying which operating system (OS) you use. I assume that it is WinXP. The location of mail folders is discussed in this article .

    Yes, XP...

XP yes. I am aware of where to find my profile, but thanks for the link anyhow...

I stated I was able to recover my own e-mail, including the inbox, trash, etc (all of the files in the mail folder) but the files that comprise my daughters e-mail apparently were not in that folder. I don't see any reference to the name I assigned either.

My question is where does netscape place account information that is added to an existing mail account? And what is/are the file/folder names?

    Thanks again....

    Welcome to the Forum, Hardwood!

    Hardwood,

When moving your Mail Accounts, did you also move the SBD folders? These folders contain the subfolders created by the user. If you created a folder for your daughter as a subfolder of your Inbox, then the Inbox.SBD would contain that information.

If this is the case, then close Netscape and Quick Launch
    Open Windows Explorer
Copy all SBD folders from the external HDD to the Mail Account folder which should contain your daughter's messages:

    C:\Documents and Settings\user_name\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\profile_name\*.slt\Mail\pop.isp_name.net\Inbox.sbd

Or, there should be another pair of files, with your daughter's name, or whatever it was named. The reason why I am saying this, is because you said that it was listed after all mail folders. Or, she may have set up an account of her own. In such case she would have the same type of files, like Inbox, sent, etc., but in another mail account. For instance, my main account is named:pop.central.cox.net, and there is a folder with my mail. I have three more accounts, named pop.central.cox.net-1,-2,-3, plus wife's named pop.central.cox.net-4, for a total of five folders. To avoid confusion, I renamed all folders.
And, if that is not coonfusing enough, I have a few more accounts, with different designation.

    Thanks Ramona...

Thanks Ramona, but the secondary account was created as a separate account altogether under the same profile (if that makes sense?). So yes, as Westside stated, there is another instance of my pop-server with a "-1" after it.

I looked in there and it is indeed her mail. But I am confused why it didn't show up when I copied the profile back to the newly created salted folder. Possibly a corrupted backup?

That would make me wonder where Netscape stores the infomation regarding pop-server and smtp-server settings per profile..... any takers?

Thanks for the help Westside, I can at least restore the sub-account of my daughter's easily now.... just need to re-enter some easy POP/SMTP info, then paste the inbox into it.

    Hardwood,

Westside was right on, and I did miss that your daughter's account was set up separately. I was fixed on your question about "where does netscape place account information that is added to an existing mail account? ".
    DUH!

Your mail account settings are stored in the prefs.js file. Word of caution: don't edit the prefs.js file without making a backup first.

I don't think you had a corrupt backup. Did you by chance change the name of the *.slt folder? This is another easy way to replace a Netscape 7.2 Profile:

    Create a new profile
    Close Netscape
Replace the contents of the new *.slt folder with the contents of your old *.slt folder. (Ensure that you don't change the name of the new *.slt folder.)

Netscape will recognize that the files don't exist in the original location, and use relative paths to determine the new location.
