System Restore does NOT create any restore points in any 24 hour period as it should.

I have disabled "hibernate" and "stand by" as I have read on other sites but it still does not create restore points. I can only create a MANUAL restore point, which really defeats the purpose of system restore!!

Can any geek out they solve my problem,

    I have Windows XP Professional.

I await a response from somebody out there.

    Shutting down my PC

I shut my PC down at night.

During the day it used to be on hibernate and / or standby but I have disabled these following an article I read on the web.

It has to do with the computer being truly idle. SR will only backup if the computer is idle. Turning off Stanby and Sleep mode are no garantee the system is Idle.

Here is a fix for you.

Go here System Restore for Windows XP

Scroll down to "VB Script to Run Unattended Restore Point Creation as a Scheduled Task by MS-MVP Doug Knox "

Follow instructions for the VBS file and add to scheduled tasks.

As a redundent backup get ERUNT ERUNT and NTREGOPT

Install it allow it to add a registry backup to the startup folder.

    System Restore.........!!!!!!

    Mike

Thank you for your quick response. It is appreciated, really it is.

On reading your message I understand the way you are going and if you go into System Restore for Windows, you will see the comment I made about Hibernate etc...

I have also scheduled the task method but is NBU. To use your directions is like a red rag to a bull and I try to steer clear of this type of suggestion having been bitten hard before and spending nearly the rest of my life putiing it right again. Life MUST be easier.

    Sorry Mike.

Thanks, but no thanks but I am not being ungrateful, honestly.

You could change the interval between system restore points to, say, every 12 hours. To do so, go to Start > Run, type regedit, press Enter and navigate to registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\SystemRestore. In the right pane, RPGlobalInterval is set to 86400 (seconds) which represents 24 hours. Right-click > Modify it accordingly.

Remember what has been said that it’s possible that one is not created exactly at the chosen interval.

    Thank you Burrwalnut.

I am now very popular now with 3 new geeks.

It is not the 24 hours I have a problem with but that bloody system restore.

It has a mind of its own just like a woman, and it used to work fine until ......well I don't know.

Shall live with the old girl and do it manually, not literally, but you know what I mean, don't you!!

Meanwhile, as they say in the US of A, have a nice day - yuk!!!
