Windows Vista Restore Files & Programs from HP Computer

Hi,
I have a friend's computer here and it was having a terrible time hanging up and so I told her it was time to reformat it. She had so much junk (games, spyware, etc) that after my trying to uninstall so much, it still hung up and didn't work correctly. It is a HP Pavilion a6110n PC running Vista

Well before I reformatted it I restarted the computer and tapped the F11 key and did a backup from the advanced HP screen that appeared. I put in a DVD and it went through and backed up everything.

Then I reformatted it and hit the F11 key again and said to restore everything. Well it seemed to restore and said it was going to place a shortcut on the desktop called "Shortcut to System Recovery Files. "

When I opened the folder there is one folder in there called "C" and a file called "Restorewiz" which is a text file.

Now the problem is that I can't seem to restore any of the programs.

The actual System Recovery Files are in: C:System Recovery Files.

I would appreciate any help that you can give me with regard to installing some of these program back to the reformatted disk.

I really don't want all of the programs but just a few.

What you backed up was DATA from programs. Not the programs. Did you reinstall the programs from the Disc/CD that they came on then try to restore the data?

 

Thank you for your help. I didn't realize they were just backing up DATA. My friend will have to reinstall the programs that she wants back on the system and then we'll try to restore the files afterwards.
