I upgraded from Firefox 9.2 to 9.3 and was wondering if I could restore a 9.2 backup (using MozBackup 1.3.1) to the 9.3 version, to reinstate the prior settings, like the search engines that I added, etc...?

Further, when I upgrade Thunderbird from 7.2 to 7.3, will I lose the emails and settings that I have established???? If yes, similarly, can I restore the 7.2 backup as outlined above for Firefox?

    keywester,

I've never used the backup extension, but if you're asking if it would do harm to use a 9.2 backup for 9.3, the answer is no.

You shouldn't lose anything in either Profile, Firefox or Thunderbird. I always use the Zipfile, so all that is necessary is to delete the current FF or TB folder, and unzip the new version into my folder of choice. That is a no sweat way to ensure no loss of personal data. ;)

I just uninstalled, from the Add/Remove the old version, then installed the new one, for both FF and TB.
It is usually a good idea to disable any extention, before uninstalling.
Uninstalling a program does not lose the settings.

yep, first problem I have had with firefox, but apparently I must not have followed the instructions when I had done the "upgrades" from 09, 091, and 092, because when I tried to do 093 it failed and then after the able assistance of Ramona, I noted that the folders for the first three installs still existed, and if I recall correctly, on the control panel add/remove, one or two prior versions still existed, so long story short (already seems like a looong story...), after uninstalling the prior version, 091 I think, I was unable to uninstall 092 (is this still the SAME sentence?) via "remove" (something about the "install log" was missing), and consequently had to extricate it via a reg clean and deleting whatever Moz folders I could find, thereby likely eradicating the "settings ".

So, I not only get the award for the longest sentence of the day, but also for being a dipwad and not previously following instructions on the upgrades...

So further, let that be a lesson to anyone that stumbles onto this, and also a closing note that the Moz Backup "restore" did NOT restore the settings (ie, the search engine list that I had so carefully built, etc...). I now know, thanks again to Ramona, that I actually need to be backing up the profile data "manually "(?)... :D
