My assistant called me this morning to tell me I have a Data drive (D) that is failing. I am not worried about data because everything is backed up perpetually so I am safe that way but, I cannot physically replace the drive for a couple of weeks until I am back in my office.

Originally, I changed the default location of my Desktop, My Documents, My Pictures, etc. from C:/ to my Data drive D:/ and since I will be delayed in replacing it I thought to avoid chaos in accessing the files in teh interim, I would move the default location again to another drive on another computer in the network "\\computer\user\my files ".

I logged in remotely to do this but made a slight mistake in the process. I did this with my Desktop and Windows transferred the files but in error I didn't create a separate folder for Desktop so the files are not separated as I would like them to be.

I went looking to restore the location to the default so I could do it again but I cannot find any way to restore the location to the default (either C:/ or where it was in D:/.

    How can I correct this?

I should say that when I right click on Desktop on my machine (either C:/Desktop or D:/Desktop) and look for Location, the tab is missing
    Thanks

Just create the folder on the other drive and move all the folders into it, then reset the location. If need be, you can use registry editor to change the locations:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders

Thanks Tony. I lost access to WinBBS for several days for some reason but, that's what I ended up doing eventually
