Restarting

    i have a friend pc which is a hp pavillion 5oo,that gets to the window xp home page and get restarting from theer.I tried to using my window xp professional cd to install and still nothing.the cd start running for second and the goes back to restarting.this is as far as it goes,i tried hitting ctrl-alt- delete,f10,f8 and nothing happens.

    not entirely sure what the problem is ... it reboots at startup?

    anyway ... where is the HP disc? try a repair install

    Make sure the heatsink isn't filled with dust and that the fan is clean plus running. Overheating, bad power supply, hardware/software problems and viruses could cause the constant restarts.

    it only goes as far to the windows xp home screen with the green thinking line and then restarts over.I tried to reboot with a window xp professional cd and it starts for a second and goes back to the windows xp start page.i can't do nothing until i get pass this,i tried hitting ctrl-alt-delete,f10,f8 and still nothing...

    check bios' boot order. u'r not booting to the CD installer. i'd bet u'r boot order lists hard disk as 'first' ... many do

    i'd avoid u'r xp pro cd here and use the one that came w/ the system in any event

    don't have one that came with the system and i can't set the boot order until i can log on in which i can't...

    boot order is set in bios. not the os

    HP Pavilion:

    Enter the BIOS: Press F1 during the blue HP screen for setup.

    candielicker, just do all of us a favour - please seek professional help nearby as its too difficult to let you know how to check the cpu fans :mad:

    Thanks whiskeyman and the rest of yall for yall help.I did the bios and booted from the cd and just deleted the xp home and put xp professional on it...Thanks alot for the help...she was so happy that i got it too work,,,,
