When I install something on this computer that requires a restart it will shutdown but will not reboot until I manually make it start. This occurs even when I just try to restart from the start button. It will then start up and everything seems OK but it will not restart on it's own. I hope that question makes sense to anyone:) Thanks

Let me rephrase the question, after I download, say, a Windows update, and it calls for a restart, when I click the restart button the computer shuts down but will not reboot on it's own. When I install an application that rquires a restart, same thing. I then can manually shut it down and start it again and everything is OK. Why won't it restart by itself? Thanks

Thanks anyway, it's not a big problem.

I had a computer that ran win98 that would do something similar. It would shut down instead of rebooting when installing apps but I could restart the computer fine with the start button. I finally resolved the problem by updating the bios. If there's an updated one available for yours you might give it a try.

If you choose to do this and aren't familiar with updating the bios it would be best if you get somebody who is to help you. If you choose to do it yourself pay special attention to the instructions. Read all of it. Though it usually goes smoothly, you can totally hose your system if something should go wrong.

The thing of it is, this computer used to restart before it was reformatted and everything was reinstalled. As I said it's no big thing, just wondered. Again thanks, this is a good forum.
