    Hello everyone,

I'm not sure that I've ever posted although I did register with BBS sometime ago.

I don't know if this is part of the problem, but am trying to give you as much info as possible.

Sometime ago I split my hard drive. I keep most of my files on D: and tried to move 'My Documents' Folder onto D: but could never get it to work so I moved it back to C:.

Couple of days ago I installed True-crypt; but when I tried to create an encrypted volume - C:\Users\PC\Documents - Windows tells me that I do not have permission to do this and access is denied.

I fiddled about in the permissions windows and changed some things and now the 'eraser program' will not work, in fact, when I start Windows 7, I get an error message [IMG][/URL] [IMG] [IMG]

My question is: Is there away to set permissions back to factory?

Or, are there images that I can look at that shows how permissions should be set so that I can make an encrypted volume and get eraser to work again?

I know it was pretty stupid to go messing around with permissions without knowing what I was doing. I don't need to hear that. If at all possible - and I would definitely appreciate this - someone who is versed in Windows 7 securities and permissions maybe could help me get this back to a normal state?

Hi OK4B, Welcome to Windowsbbs! :)

Try following the instructions in this link, How to restore security settings to a known working state. The article applies to Windows Vista but it will work on Windows 7.

Also please enter your System Details. It helps us in answering your questions.

Note: A common error is to forget to show your System Details in your profile:

Make sure to do the above when entering your System Details, thanks.

Thanks for your help. I'm sure if I spent my life on this computer I would be 'computer literate' in all things I should. I have struggled with defining the problem accurately. Usually once I've done that, the solution is not far behind.

Evan Omo: I will get back to you with the information needed. I did quickly glance at the linked page that you provided. Immediately upon the page was a warning that the information contained therein was not for the operating system accessing the page. But I read it anyway.

Work is calling and I have to be going now but I will stick to this process until there is a successful outcome. Your time won't be wasted on me.

You should go ahread with the command shown in the link Evan posted.

In a evalated command prompt run the following command.
    secedit /configure /cfg %windir%\inf\defltbase.inf /db defltbase.sdb /verbose

These images show the elevated command window after applying fix, that states 'completed with errors' is this the beginning of a crash?

The second and third image are of the Eraser(heidi) crash report giving the errors that occurred when I tried to open program.

No. It just informs you where you can view additional information.

Can't help you with that. You could try their forum.
