    Stupid question but please tell me what is the purpose of the Power Reset Switch (O/I Switch) on the back of my CPU?

    To completely shut the power off. The switch on the front may be configured to put the computer into Standby mode, depends on the BIOS setup.

    The switch you describe is not a reset switch; it is an on-off switch. It allows you to kill power to the main board for such things as replacing or adding memory, removing and inserting PCI or AGP cards, etc.

    The main board on ATX systems have power at all times, unless this switch is off or the machine is unplugged.
