    Hi,

Does anyone know of a way of changing the target of Windows Explorer in XP Pro so it opens with all folders closed?

You know, like the way one can do it in 98 so that it doesn't blow open showing all the Windows subfolders. Like that.

Would like to make it open with only the drives showing. Expand from there.

    ANYONE???????????

    Thanx

Create a Desktop Shortcut and paste the following as the target line:

    C:\WINDOWS\EXPLORER.EXE /n,/e,/root,,/select,C:\

    Cheers. :)

    Zephyr,

Thanx a whole bunch for that one!

You have no idea how much easier that target line will make my life.

Now, when I set up others' PCs, I can use it for them. Won't hear near as much "I don't get it.......which folder?......what do you mean in C?..........where's D?........in My Documents?..........etc., etc., etc."

    ........you get the picture :D

Thanx again! Have a GREAT day!

    One More Thing

    Yes, it's me, yet again!

So now that I have such a slick target for Windows Explorer thanks to Zephyr, I need to know something else.

How do I go about placing a shortcut to Windows Explorer in the Start Menu? Actually anything for that matter. I would like to move a folder full of game shortcuts which is now in Quick Launch over to the Start Menu.

Once again, with 98SE, no problem. XP Pro? I am at a loss. Could someone please help me find my way with this?

    Thanx again

    Homer :D

Right click the shortcut to Explorer and select "Pin To Start Menu. "

    Zephyr,

Will your wonders ever cease? :D

You nailed that one down right quick. Don't you log off just yet. I might suffer a terrible claustrophobic episode here!

Okay...the other thing. How do I get a shortcut to a folder over there now. When I try it with my "Games" folder, no such option.

While you're at it, can you tell me how long I'll live, how many granchildren I'll have, what I'll be driving in ten years, winning lottery numbers???...........oh, just never mind. You're too busy for all that stuff. Just the answer to the above question about the folder would be appreciated for right now. ;)

You are just TOO good to me!

    Homer

EDIT Just discovered that on my daughter's machine I cannot "pin to" what with her classic interface setting. Mine, worked like a charm. (not classic interface)

    Ideas????

Classic works the same way as 98 did.
    Start, Settings, Taskbar, Add, Browse...
You can always set your start menu to "Classic ", do all the stuff you want, just like in 98, then reset it to XP start menu.

On her machine, right click the START button > select PROPERTIES > tag the box that says "Start Menu." Click OK and then you will have the right click option to "Pin To Start Menu." Do the deed and then if she prefers the "Classic" menu, go back and reset by Right clicking START button > Properties > tag the "Classic Menu" box > click OK and you're good to go.

As for getting the games folder to the start menu, drag the folder to the START button > hold it until the menu expands > drag it on up to the upper left side and finally, release the mouse button.

    :)

    Thanx, you two!

It's done and done! I had no idea as to being able to drag stuff to the start button to place it in startup. Learn something every day.

......now to deliver the beast where it will be scrutinized to the nines. ;)
