In the last day or 2 I've been getting a notice that I'm "requesting an insecure document that can be viewed by others" when I never received this before when connecting to web sites which I thought were secure. What does this mean? Is there some kind of spyware that has invaded my browser, Netscape 4.79? Puzzled.

    Hi ackerberg,

Probably not spyware, but you might want to run AdAware or SpyBot, if you use either of these programs, to be on the safe side.

Click on the "Security" tab, and check your settings under "Navigator ". Enable or disable the choices for:

    Show a warning before...
Disable: Sending unencrypted information from a site.

This will prevent that message from appearing again. It's for your protection, but then can be annoying too. It's to remind you that any time you send information over the Internet, the possibility of it being viewed by someone else always looms. It doesn't mean that it is actually being viewed. It just depends on your preference for having the warning/nag appear .

    HTH,

    security

    Thanks Ramona,
I like being able to view the information that something is not secure. What bothers me is that I get that notification AFTER signing into my e-mail from AT&T and I do not remember receiving it before I monkeyed around with the Quick Launch icon and info. Seems weird.

    ackerberg,

I too receive the warning after I login. I have this option disabled, but I'm pretty sure this is the normal sequence. Or it could also have to do with the recent changes that have been made...

Once I login, I note that the "Lock" icon is closed, and when I select View | Page Info, it tells me that this login page is encrypted. Once I get to the actual Email page, then the page is not encrypted. I feel extremely secure when using these ATT pages, but if you have further concerns about the security, you should definitely ask one of the AT&T Electronic Customer Care - Newsgroup Support Agents, on the worldnet.help.email-software NG.

    lock-in?

    Hi Ramona,
This is the story which is verified by AT&T personnel.
When you get the sign-in screen, the lock is closed so that when you submit your password, it can not be intercepted by anyone.
As soon as you sign in, the lock becomes open and your connection is no longer secure. So your communications with your e-mail screen are not secure.
Check it out when you sign in and let me know what you find. According to AT&T this is how it is supposed to work.
    Thanks.

    Hi ackerberg,

Thanks for posting the reply from ATT. Yes, that is exactly how the security worked for me, as I stated above. Once I left the login page, there was no more security.

Like you, I really don't remember if it was ever any different, but once enabled, it seemed familiar. I feel as safe as anyone can be these days, which isn't saying much!

It works in exactly the same way using Netscape 7.02.
