A member of our Computer Forum has a Laptop with Vista Home on it, she wants to change this to XP Pro as this is the OS on her Desktop.
Tried to install XP but got the message that Vista is a newer OS than XP so would not instal XP.
Is there a way, without formating drive, I can instal XP in place of Vista.
    Thanks.

You can not install XP on top of Vista and keep all the current apps.

You also need to verify that you can XP drivers for all of the hardware. Often times - you can't.

    Short answer, Spanner, No.

You could, however, install XP into VirtualBox and run it full screen. You'd need to check that the spec of the laptop is up to it though.

Personally, I avoid in-place upgrades like the plague... I always do a clean install.

Back up your data files first and then reinstall everything. It can be a bit more long winded but the extra effort is well worth it.

Having to put this on hold for the moment, the laptop owner with the Vista OS has gone to Florida for Christmas, lucky for some.
Will get back on-it when she returns.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all, and thanks for the help.
