My motherboard died and i was unable to save or move some of the data on the drive. So, i don't know which is the best path to take:
1)Is it possible to get Windows to boot up under a new motherboard without reinstalling?.
2)Or would it be easier to hook my C:\ drive up as a Slave to another computer and delete the files under System. Would this also delete the drivers or would i have to go into safe mode(on my computer) to do this? Would this work?
3)Or should i hook it up as a Slave, transfer my data files, hook it back up to my computer and reformat/reinstall?
Both computers have Win2kPro installed on them.
Thanks in advance for any help.

You're probably going to get a diversity of opinions here but I'd strongly recommend #3. Slave it in another machine, grab the files you want and then put it back in your new MB machine, wipe it, reformat and do a clean install - in the long run, this should give you a trouble free machine with the least amount of time involved. And, sure as _hit, there are going to be those who disagree.

    ;)

How did it go? I am buying a new mobo and cpu and would really like to format my HD to get rid of years of debris but have tons of stuff I need to save. I want to do a clean install of W98 after format. Can I transfer files I want to save, including email, bookmarks, and 'my documents' to a lap top running XP via sharing on our family lan, change mobos, format, reinstall w98, and retrieve files from XP laptop? Thanks for any advice.
