My brother has a Sony VGN-T350P which he uses in his missionary work. He desires to install a larger hard drive [100 gig] and more Ram. He has always used Dell Latitudes or Inspirations before and had no trouble in accessing the hard drive or ram but can't figure out how to access to drive and ram on the Sony. Where he is at[Sri Lanka] he has no Internet access so he has no way to seek information on the process. His owner manual does not relate to it. Can anyone shed some light on the process of obtaining access to the Hard drive and Ram on the Sony? He has a 100 Gig HHD on hand.

Just as a thought I called a Sony authorized ctr. this morning and was told that if they had the computer in hand it would be $27.95 to install his drive. That is impossible I told them as he is overseas and if it is only $27.95 it must not be much of a problem, just knowing how to get into the case without breaking something. Of course there was no reply or advise.I will keep searching and post in some other forums. Thanks PetC for your reply.

    Hello quickshot,

A way around the HD limit is to get an external USB connected drive.

    Two options:
One is an external drive complete with case, ready made for this purpose and called Backup Drives, this tends to be pricey.

Or get a 2.5 laptop HD and then an external cage for it, the less expensive option and also physically smaller.

    Regards - Charles

There really is no HD limitation but they do not want an end consumer to access the drive or ram but a shop could do the upgrade, this is not possible where he is at and a external is not feasible lugging around in the remote areas of Sri Lanka, The computer will handle a 100gig drive as verified by a Sony repair center here in the States but they would not inform me how to access the HD without damaging the case.

There is if the case can't be opened for replacement and that's a real possibility.

An external 2.5 drive is smaller than the laptop - and can be disconnected obviously. So if lugging around a laptop, this is an addition smaller than the laptop.

It can be opened in the repair shop and the other HD instaslled .

Lugging around one more item when lugging around one item is a chore. But some do not mine how many external item are attached. Thanks for the come back though.
