HI Guys, we are in the middle of installing our new servers and replacing our domain controller. The set up will be as follows:
    - We want to replace one domain controller, but keep the same domain name.
    - Will only be having one domain.
    - We will be installing the same OS (2000), just different machines.

The question is: how do we restore the active directory with the Global Catalogue?

As we want to use our backup tapes to do a restore; is it better to do an Authoritative or Non-Authoritative restore? Will this process be straight forward or need more planning??

    Your help will be appreciated.
    Thanks

If I understand you correctly, you are installing a new Domain Controller and have AD backed up on tape. Also you seem to be getting rid of old server. So install new DC, and perform a primary restore of AD backup in Directory Services Restore Mode.

you need to perform a primary restore of Adirectory on single or first of many dcontrollers so as to configure replication correctly from that time forward
