    Hi all,
I've been having a lot of little glitches on computer,1 is that the shutdown problem has come back ( won't powerdown) lost my E drive ( the burner) and yesterday a BSOD ! My local computer guy says it would probably be best to to a repair instal.
What is the best (and easiest) way to do this please someone? I have never tried anything like this before so want to be sure I do it properly.:(

    Hello tric,

Put your XP install cd-rom into the disc. If auto play enabled, the install process will begin, if not, double click on the drive.

You will see a "repair" option.

Disable all your startup apps before doing this.

    Regards - Charles

    Tric,
DO NOT use the first "R" repair option. This is very misleading of MS. I learnt the hard way a long time ago. The following MS Q explains, sort of. Follow method 2 as explained but don't use the first repair, 'else you loose everything.

Using repair you will need to reinstall SP1 if you have it and reinstall all the windows updates, and you MAY need to reinstall your video drivers but check if XP has over-written them with its own generic ones. Everything else and all preferences SHOULD be OK.

Just in case, back up everything you really don't want to lose...and, if you can, make yourself one cd of all the programs you will need to reinstall. Also, if you let Windows remember your passwords, before you get started, try to write down as many as you can. (It will save you time emailing for them later.) If you would like to save your WAB and your bookmarks, email them to a friend, or burn them to a cd. This is also a good time to unplug everything, straighten out the cords, and dust and clean behind and under the machine! If you use OE, go into tools/accounts and make sure you know who your mailserver is and what the password is. Good luck.

I have saved the MS article and will print them out just in case.

    Hi Everyone,
All went well with repair, the main problem which my friendly computer tech picked up on was my CD Burner! It was causing almost all of the niggles I was getting. After we replaced it I still ran the second repair option and now (touch wood) it is going well.
Thank you all for your advice,it's appreciated!
    :) :)
