    Hello

When using a link in an email, sometimes IE6.0 will close down and it comes up with the usual message, if failure continues you have to reinstall or contact you supplier.

Normally I make a repair of IE 6.0 under Uninstall/install Programmes and problem is solved.

This time, however, I will not be allowed to repair IE6.0.
    Following message appears:

    Not possible to repair IE6.0
    File MSXML3.dll is missing.

I hope some of you can help.

    Best regards

Mariola--Can't say I understand much about it, but it has to do with the MS XML Parser. Maybe some help here
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/dnmsxml/html/msxmlcabfile.asp
P.S. I got my copy in August 2002. It must have been part of some patch from MS. If the above link does not help you download a new copy, you might want to look here to see if you can figure out which.
    http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp?url=/technet/security/current.asp
    Perhaps MS-02-047?

I have tried to read the 2 links you have referred me, but to be honest I don´t understand much of it.

I have established that following 2 files:

    msxml3r.dll
    msxml3a.dll

    both version 8.20.8730.1 from September 10, 2002

are found on my computer in Windows\System. My OS is WIN98.

Since msxml3.dll is not found, is there an easy way to reinstall it?

    Regards

    Hi

I don't know enough about it either, certainly Jim knows more
But anyway check within add-remove programs for
any Microsoft XML parser listed and see if it offers a repair
I once had two there now theres only one XML parser and sdk 4

    the two can run concurrently 3 & 4 and I don't think installing 3
Is the way to go about this , it might overwrite 4

so maybe try that You didn't mention the OS whoops I see it now
    " "System. My OS is WIN98. "
and If or not you have IE6Sp1

so first go to windows update !!!

    then try the other route

then If theres no mention a Microsoft parser (in-add-remove)you could start> search for files and folders
    MSXML*
And again see in the install package has a repair option ,, You can alway cancel back out if not

I show lots of dll's and two install packages , one from windows update one from a microsoft game, In case I guess My system needed it..

PS I hope you have the two programs included in my signature
    there free

    Hej Lonny

    My IE6.0 is SP1.

In add-remove programs I do not have any Microsoft XML parser.

I did the search for msxml* and found the 2 files mentioned earlier:

    msxml3r.dll
    msxml3a.dll

Regarding Windows Update I have tried to enter but get following error message: ERROR 0x800A01AD which as suggested was sent to Microsoft, but without any response so far.

Same error message on Office update. Whether its a Microsoft error or an error in my system, I don't know.

    Regards

PS: I do have the 2 programmes mentioned in your signature line.

I was inccorect the two found by searching
MSXML* one was from when I had used windows update
    catalog=============

Search the PC for without the Quotes "Update.log file "

and look for an error code R/click open with and open with text editor, find the one with the same date...

then go to the windows update troubleshooter and search for it,
could go edit find to make it easy.

well here is the first one when i searched fo the error you mentioned
    http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/troubleshoot/
    ==============clip==============================
When you try to access the Windows Update site you receive error 0x800A01AD. 0x800a01AD ActiveX component can't create object. The Windows Update.log file will have error entries similar to this:

Error IUENGINE Determining machine configuration (Error 0x80040154: Class not registered)

    Suggestion 1:

Make sure the MSXML files are registered correctly by following the steps below.

NOTE: You may not have the files listed in Steps 2 and 3 installed on your PC but please perform all 3 steps. If you don't have one of the files, when you try to register it you will see a popup window that has this text:

LoadLibrary( "filename.dll ") failed - The specified file name could not be found.

Just disregard the error and continue to the next step.

    Follow these steps:

    1. Click on Start, Run and type "REGSVR32 C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\MSXML.DLL" (w/o the quotes). You should see a popup message that this process succeeded.
    2. Click on Start, Run and type "REGSVR32 C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\MSXML2.DLL" (w/o the quotes). You should see a popup message that this process succeeded.
    3. Click on Start, Run and type "REGSVR32 C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\MSXML3.DLL" (w/o the quotes). You should see a popup message that this process succeeded.
Now try the Windows Update site and see if you get the same error.

    Suggestion 2:

This error can be the result of a file mismatch or corruption of the MSXML.DLL files. Try upgrading your XML parser to the most recent version, which is currently MSXML Parser 3.0 Service Pack 2 Release. You can download the latest parser from this site:

    http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/downloads/list/xmlgeneral.asp
    ==============================================

good luck and let us know
    Lonny

    Hi Lonny

You are the greatest or at least one of them.

    My problem solved.

I followed the 3 steps under suggestion 1:
Only the first one returned a successful reply.
The other 2 returned following message:
LoadLibrary (C:\Windows etc.) failed. GetLastError returns 0x00000485.

The I took suggestion 2 and installed MSXML Parser 3.0 Service pack 2 Release.

Tested again above 3 steps under suggestion 1, and step 1 and 3 were now successful.

Tested Windows Update and Repair of IE6.0.

    Both worked perfectly.

    Thanks a lot.

Does MSXML2.DLL have any critical function?

    Regards:)

Hi good to hear it was that simple, thanks for saying it worked
plus I was afraid it would'nt download for you.

" "Does MSXML2.DLL have any critical function?" "

Im not the one to ask gee but appenently so.
You could go through those link's Welshjim posted , thats what I did .
PS I learned to much and now I know next to nothing.

I find it better to not let any third party programs install anything for Microsoft (maybe thats what had happend)
Even with a microsoft other product like the game I mention could have installed XML and could also have installed directX . I would cancel out and look around to see whats up and if windows up offerd it instead, get it there , excuding current products like office or works and such or if the game was MS and was brand new.
One Bad thing to do would be to let any ISP update IE
    (My opinion) for example.

I have a question for the forum occording to the copy paste I done did
    ===================
" "Try upgrading your XML parser to the most recent version, which is currently MSXML Parser 3.0 Service Pack 2 Release. You can download the latest parser from this site:" "
    ===================
then why do I have 4 , I think version 4 is normal( on win me),But SDK ?
Maybe it was my doing when I had (way back) tried some MS SDK's like mmmm speach sdk,may have installed xmlsdk to and uninstalled it so winup would then offer it..
