Just aquired a laptop with XP Home.
It was registered to the person I bought it from obviously.
I was successful in using regedit to rename registered owner and was about to rename the user account.
But...(and I have tried to look this up and only find answers I think for Pro)
The folder that's created in Documents and Settings is still named the original owner. I can't rename it or copy and delete it.

How do I rename this folder to my name...the new owner?

.. I can't rename it or copy and delete it ..
That's a good thing because there is every chance that if you had (and it can be done) you'd have messed the PC up to the point a fresh load of the OS would have been needed.

To safely do what you want to do:

    - create a user account using the name you want. Then log on with that name and it will have it's own section (profile) created in the Document & Settings folder.

    - Then follow the instructions in How to Copy User Data to a New User Profile

Once you've done all of that, if you are logged on as JoeUser with admin rights, you can delete OtherUser from the PC.
