    Hello,

I have a IBM laptop running Win 2000. It gave me a lot of errors so I upgrade to Windows XP. I could not install XP from windows so I booted from the CD and installed XP in "the old NT" way. This now gives me the option to boot to 2000 or to XP I'd like to remove 2000 from the computer all together, without having to reformate my drive and loose all my data. Is there a simple way to do this? Please advise, and many thanks in advance.

    Whit

If you put XP in where 2000 was, doubtful if 2000 is really still there.

The display where you pick the OS you want is a simple text file and the line(s) referencing 2000 are probably still in there.

Hidden file in %systemroot% (probably c:\) called boot.ini. Open the file in notepad and remove the line(s) dealing with 2000, save and close the file, and you won't see the options next time you boot up.

BTW - you won't see the option even if 2000 is still alive and well (or alive and ill).

Thanks for the tip. I did find the boot.ini file and delete the lines refering to win2k. I also found that the winnt directory was still located on c: so I just deleted the whole directory. Everything seems to be working fine...

    thanks
