I have been looking all over the place for information on removing all video codecs on the windows xp operating system with little progress. I have discovered that there is a list of all the video codecs in the device manger under Sound, video and game controllers>video. It also provides a remove function that dosent seem to work. And ive read other post of pple stating this same problem. I need ro remove all my video codecs to reinstall my original codec. Does anyone know of a way to remove the video codecs on the windows xp machine?

No idea why the "remove" piece isn't working. You might try start~run~sfc /scannow to see if you have a messed up system file or two that is causing that issue.

Meanwhile you can easily disable any codec you want without removing it. DO NOT DELETE THE CODEC DRIVERS when using this method though.

Use notepad or some other text editor and open
    c:\windows\system32\mmdriver.ini.
Search through the file until you find the lines that contain driver names. Place a semicolon in front of any such line followed by a space and you will disable that driver from loading.
