I was reading the Windows BBS the other day and wanted to put an Icon on the desktop so that I could return quickly as time permitted. An error happened and it didn't finish. However, it put the WindowsBBS.com icon on the desktop. Unable to remove this icon. Can't move it to the recycle bin either. How can I accomplish this task? Went to Windows Explorer and found it made a folder. I removed that and have tried everything I could think of.

Have you tried to remove it in Safe Mode?

Right click the file and see what windows saved it as. Usually under target type.

Thanks Whiskeyman and skipslot for your replies.

I checked and it says Modified Theme. I never set a theme and never noticed if there was one or not. There is no place to say none.

After trial and error to find the right Function key for Safe Mode I tried that. It made my icons so huge and it would not display all of them, therefore I could not get to the one in question.

I closed out of that and restarted normally. What happened then is a puzzle also. It took the Windows BBs icon (reduced it's size) and moved it closer to the Recycle bin...but I still couldn't move the icon as I said before. I even moved the recycle bin icon next to that simple icon and that didn't work either...lol

So I went back to Themes and tried changing to something else and no luck doing that either. Then the modified theme disappeared.

I'm ready to chuck Windows XP and go back to my old computer with Wdos 98.

    Hello Skipslot,
    Thanks for your reply.
I browsed the Themes listed on Display Properties. Delete is grayed out!

This articles states there are 3 standard themes that are not to be deleted.
I suspect those would be the Windows XP and Windows Classic. Correct?
    Should I delete the others?

    Here is what is listed:

    Windows Classic (modified)
    Windows XP
    Windows Classic
    Energy Blue
    Aquarium
    Da Vinci
    Nature
    Space
    More themes online
    Browse

Then I searched using the folders indicated. Nothing came up.
I searched document and settings manually. Then did a search for "themesâ€.
That brought up a few more but nothing in them to lead me to this STUBBORN BBS icon.

I looked at the Registry and don’t understand it. Did a find and found nothing that looked like Installed Themes the report spoke to.
