    Does anyone know where information can be found on manipulating the Toolbars within 4.x? I'd like to alter or remove the "Your Personal Start Page" button on the Navigation Toolbar. I found the information on the "Shop" and "Radio" choices.

    I also found the "my Netscape" (Your Personal Start Page) toolbar button annoying since all it did was go to http://my.netscape.com/index2.psp but I never bothered trying to get rid of it . I DID get rid of the SHOP button with a prefs.js edit so I did a groups.google.com search on "my netscape" toolbar prefs.js and found:

    http://www.ufaq.org/commonly/userprefs.html
    Advanced Communicator Preference Settings
    You can also also look through
    http://developer.netscape.com/docs/manuals/communicator/preferences/
    and
    http://developer.netscape.com/docs/manuals/deploymt/jsprefs.htm

    Welcome to the Forum, Systems2000

    Hi Systems2000,

    I was about to add the same link that Alice just posted. I believe that this is hard coded into the program, and cannot be removed. Your only option would be to use either MyNetscape or Guide.

    You might also try one of the Netscape DevEdge Newsgroups:
    snews://secnews.netscape.com/netscape.public.dev

    Someone may be able to give you some hints. It could be that you can do this using the CCK for Communicator.

    Using the logic that was used with the "Shop" hack and the button being called MyNetscape, I'm going to try the following eidt:

    user_pref( "browser.chrome.MyNetscapeButton ", false);

    Systems2000,

    Keep us posted and good luck! I used several different scripts, but none seemed to work. You may be more resourceful than I was. I tried:

    user_pref( "browser.chrome.disableMyNetscape ", true);
    AND
    user_pref( "browser.chrome.useMyNetscape ", false);

    Neither worked, and that's why I think it is hard coded.

    <BR>Well that didn't work. Learned a good lesson with that move. Next time I play with prefs.js, I'm going to use a bogus user. Lost my address cache and my history.

    I also had tried the disable edit and also wouldn't work. As soon as I have some spare time, I'm going to put a little more effort into finding the answer.

    Yes, be careful with the prefs.js when using N4.x. It's a good idea to back it up first, since any typo will cause netscape to delete your prefs.js and use a default prefs.js file. There is a dialog box with a warning about an error of some kind, then when you press OK a default prefs.js file is created with no warning. If you have a lot of custom settings you will not appreciate this... ;)
