    Hi,
I want to remove a non-functioning network as I'm having a cable modem fitted to the network card. How do I remove any existing components of the network? Thanks in advance

If you remove the network card from device manager in safe mode, shut down and remove the network card, and restart, you will have removed enough that you are basically getting a clean start. Then down again, replace the NIC, and start up.

The above is assuming that you have only NIC based networking. If you also have a dial-up adapter, you can delete all parts of that while you are in safe mode. Just get to your network settings and remove everything in sight. Then do the device manager and physical removal of the NIC. No danger of removing anything essential since you will be re-adding all the components when you start back up with a NIC in place.
