    Hi MIR11,

Always hate to see a user leave a secure Browser like Netscape, and go back to an insecure Browser such as IE. However, that is your choice...

Netscape can be uninstalled through the Add/Remove Programs component in:
Start | Settings | Control Panel

Before you uninstall Netscape, however, do you already have IE set up for Mail, etc.? It would be a good idea to first set up IE before uninstalling Netscape in order to move any Profile data which you wish to keep; i.e., Mail, Address Books, etc.

Import Netscape Mail to Outlook Express or Outlook

If you have other questions or problems about or with IE, you should post them on the Internet Explorer/Outlook Express Forum.

We can help you here with any Netscape issues.

You said i" Always hate to see a user leave a secure Browser like Netscape, and go back to an insecure Browser such as IE. However, that is your choice "

This puter works faster with IE as a "web browser.. searching from address bar MSFT would switch to Netscape, which added another step
Everytime i got an upgrade notice for Netscape, it would not take it

Do not get upset, but i asked how to change it, period.
How stable or unstable YOU consider it is of no importance to me.
I used to post on About.com/windows: those people over there always gave opinions like that.

As Joe Friday used to say "just the facts, maam "

Thank You, and please do not be upset with me.
    do not get upset
    Mike

    Ramona,

I agree 100% with your security concerns for IE and Outlook. Most of the viruses, worms, etc that are reported work through holes in either IE or Outlook. It is for that reason alone that I use Netscape as my primary browser. I do find, however, that some sites just don't work with Netscape. (Probably written with IE specific language in their html code. Also, most of the Intranet sites used at work "require" IE, so I use IE almost exclusively at work.) Also, I am having problems with saving images from Netscape (see my previous post on this topic) so I keep IE installed to use as my backup browser at home.

I am trying to uninstall NetScape 7.1 as it won't load at all. I put it on my D drive as I have 4.7 on C & didn't want to override it. I SHOULD be able to go to add & delete but it doesn't show 7.1 at all. It is under START, PROGRAMS but there is NO uninstall there. How do I uninstall it? Do I just try to install it again over what is there & hope. I hope someone has answers.
    TIA,
    Dar

    Welcome to the Forum, darinesto!

    Hi Dar,

I'm not certain why Netscape isn't listed in the Add/Remove applet? I don't have a partitioned HD, so unclear on exactly what happens when a program is installed on a separate drive.

It's not necessary to install Communicator 4.7 and Netscape 7.1 on separate drives, however. These two programs are completely unique, and run side by side with no complications. Netscape 7 is NOT an upgrade to Netscape Communicator. The Netscape 7 will install in a separate folder, or you can create your own folder during the install, if you wish.

If 7.1 isn't listed in Add/Remove, then about all you can do at this point is try installing it again, then see if it is added to Add/Remove. Did you by chance get any type of error when you installed 7.1 the first time?

    Ramona thanks for the reply,
I did have problems with the mail but no error messages. I would like to get it as I am finding sites where 4.7 won't work. I like 4.7 but is sure getting out dated fast. Guess I'll have to try & install it again. I wonder why is it in the start, program but doesn't have a uninstall?

    Hi Dar,

I imagine because the programmers want you to use Windows Add/Remove.... I think something may have gone wrong in your install.

Where did you download the Netscape executable from: Netscape's web site, SillyDog701, Holger Metzger web site, or a CD?

Let us know how it goes,

    Ramona :D

Ramona...Is the sites U list pretty reliable?
I may download it again from Sillydog. I see it mentioned in NetScape resolutions so it is probably good.
Wish me luck this time

    Dar,

You should reinstall the exact Netscape program you used originally.

All the sites I listed are reliable, safe, sites. They are all recommended by the Netscape/Mozilla Champions on the Netscape Newsgroups.
