Have a friend who has netscape 4.79 as default browser. She wants I.E. as default browser but changing the internet options check mark does not appear to work even though it should. The prefs.js does not display the user line to change from true to false and actually mine does not either.

Anyway I know by uninstalling netscape then reinstalling it can be made not to be the default browser but is there a registry entry that can be modified without uninstalling. Have looked at Netscapes web site and Microsofts but unable to find the key that may do this.

    Hi gg,

I believe this is the Registry Key to which you refer:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\HTTP\Shell\Open\ddeexec\Application

    Pardon me for jumping.

There is a great FREE program for setting the default browser.

    "SETBROWSER "

    http://www.pc-tools.net/win32/freeware/gui/

I've used it for jumping from NS 7.0, NS 6.2.X and IE, seems pretty stable and very small (42K)

    Good luck.
