Hi My friend has just bought a new HP Desktop setup with Vista Home Premium, with a Compaq 22" screen, I have just helped him set it up, but being mainly familiar with XP, I had a quick look but for it but need a pointer on how to get it to start straight up without asking for the password.
Him being new to the whole PC scene , it would be better if it went straight open.
    Thanks Des.

Des, it is probably better to assign a password. It is one extra level of security.

Vista might require one to be assigned, I'm not certain, but that is the way things are heading.

The user should work out a system of passwords anyway. More complex for higher security, less for low security.

Easy to remember (all based on the one theme that the user can try one after the other if the pasword is "lost ".)

Ask the user how he wants to start setting up a password system (it will need to grow and change:)).

Eliminating the password prompt is the same in Vista as it is in XP.

Go to Start>Run (or press the Windows key and R key combination). In the Run box, type control userpasswords2, click OK.

In the window that opens, uncheck "Users must use a user name and password to use this computer," click OK.

In the window that opens, make sure the account name you want it to logon automatically is entered correctly in the Username field. If there is no password, leave the password field blank, click OK.
