    Hi,

You need to clean theSystem and Registry to remove references to EasyCD Creator.

To save typing I've copied the following from a post by mflynn (thanks Mike) - follow this through exactly as written.

    Registry and System cleaners

    RegCleaner http://www.vtoy.fi/jv16/shtml/regcleaner.shtml
Look in first 2 cols for programs you thought you uninstalled or removed, these are the dregs left by the uninstaller. Also tag and remove any that you are POSITIVE are not supposed to be on your computer. After removing these go to the top Tools-Registry Cleanup-Do them all. Delete all it finds.

    EasyClean1.7 http://gswi.com/downloads.htm
Run only unnecessary files and registry clean delete all it finds. If you have ME or XP in the "Unnessesary Files" type the word HELP in the skip box. Do not do Duplicate files!

    RegScrubXP http://www.lexunfreeware.com/LexunFreeware.htm
    NOTE: W2K and XP only!

Select RegScrub finds problems and remove all it finds.

    This should solve your problem.

Note: In my experience entering HELP in the EasyClean Registry Clean skip box does not prevent Windows Help from being disabled - there is a registry fix here

Credit where credit is due !

That post - so eloquently put - is the baseline standard for a system clean up - IMO.

    Try this

    reboot F8 to safe mode

EasyCd is from Adaptec. If the only thing you had from Adaptec is easycd then do the following

do a disk search/find for adaptec*.* and delete all it finds.

    after this

Run the RegCleaner that Pete advised and on the first page look in the first 2 colums and remove all adaptec and or easycd etc.

Even after deleting these look on down for any other entries pertaining to easycd.

EasyCD ver. 50 from Adaptec will work for you (XP) as will Nero 5x.

Reboot to full mode should be "Good to GO!

    Good luck,

    Mike

The only thing I would add is, use the EasyCleaner 2.0 beta 1 version in place of the older v1.7f as this programme can/will disable the XP help files. The v2.0 beta is available through the beta link on the Toni Arts page.

    EasyCD Creator

Just my two cents worth... If I remember correctly EasyCD 4 was not XP compatible. I believe ECD 5 was compatible with XP. If you need a new CD burning program, I would highly recommend Nero Burning Rom. You can find information on Nero HERE .

I over looked the obvious suggestion... Use system restore to roll the PC back to a restore point just before you tried installing the programme. As Mr. B says v4.x IS incompatable with XP. Failing this you may have to tread dangerously and search the registry manually and delete any references to ECDC v4,

Pete in rereading this thread before looking for pcuksnakes I notice that you had actually edited in credits to me!

Pete I was only kidding... LOL!

I only mentioned it to let you know that I was pleased that you used it. Smile.

pcuksnakes where are you? Let us know something.

I sure hope you didn't go reformat or reinstall for something like this.

    PeteC,

Would you say that "RegScrubXP" is the best among the three you listed in a previous thread for Win XP registry cleaners?
I ask becasue I was looking for a good registry cleaner for my XP I recently installed.

Hope Pete don't mind if I answer that.

I would not say any are the best because they all have their special features.

RegScrub is the safest if you use the "Let RegScrub find ". And it does have a good engine that seems to find some that the others miss.

But RegCleaner can find a few that RegScrub misses. And I like the page of listed installed programs. Where I see "say AOL" and I know I never had or have uninstalled AOL I can delete what the uninstaller left here.

    I wouldn't be without either.

The JV6 regcleaner is a more advanced reg cleaner from the author of RegCleaner, but can get some into trouble as it takes more knowledge of the system and registry to use safely.

In fact when I am deep cleaning my own system to IMAGE for backup. Which I do about every 2 months.

In addition to several temp cleaners I run 6 different regcleaners one after the other until all come out clean. Because all seem to find a few different things and if one finds something it sometimes opens a hole so that the one that has already run finds something else again.

I don't advise this for the average user but I have been doing this professionally for 25 years.

I only go to this extreme because I want my Image to be as small and as clean as possible if I need to restore it.
