I replaced my XP cursors with some animated cursors and now I don't like them. I have done this in the past and had no problem but I cannot change them back and assign normal cursors.

The Mouse app in Control Panel does not do the job even when it looks like it is doing it.

    Hi tenbob
Did you do this from within XP, or did you download them from somewhere?

Go to Start/Control Panel (XP) and double-click on the Mouse icon.
    Hit the Pointers tab.
In the Scheme box at the top, you can change all of your pointers at once by selecting a new scheme from the drop-down menu.
In the Customize box below, you can change one pointer at a time by selecting a pointer and clicking the Browse button. A new window will open up. Make your choice by double-clicking on your selection.

    not working

That is my problem. I have known about this XP method since at least Win95. It looks, during the changing, as if it is doing the job but then it doesnt do anything. No cursor changes

Are you sure about that?

If the default cursors were not present, you would in fact receive 10-15 simultaneous error messages indicating that each cursor of the default scheme is either missing or corrupt. You have not indicated as such so that leads us to believe you may have missed a step.

    Do this:
    • 'Control Panel' > 'Printers and Other Hardware' > 'Mouse' > 'Pointers' tab
    • Under 'Scheme' is a box
    • Click on the arrow at the right end of that box
    • Scroll down to and select '3d-Bronze (system scheme)'
    • Make sure it is now displayed in the 'Scheme' box
    • Click 'Apply' then 'OK'

Thanks but this did not work either. Got an error message that one of the pointers was not working

    Fixed problem

When I was looking at the Mouse portion of the control panel, I did notice something that was not familiar. There was a tab that was marked "CursorXP ". Sounded odd so I checked it and realized that the cursor I was having trouble with removing was part of an additional app I had installed with that name.

Uninstalling that, removed the troublesome cursor and I was able to replace the default cursors with the small animated cursors that I wanted.

The hand they had installed was cute but took up too much space and concealed important text.
