Text suddenly disappeard

A DellDimension 8200(P4-1.8ghz with a GeForce2MX400) suddenly lost the text that accompanies all icons. If you type a search into any space,be it Google, or URL bar, even in Word, while you're typing, nothing appears on the screen until you click the mouse in the field where you've just typed. Then the text appears. A Google search initiates just fine, but you can't see what you've just typed, unless you first click in the box, before clicking on Go.
In Windows Explorer, the folder icons are there, but not their names. When you click the mouse on the folder icon, the name appears, but disappears when you click on the next folder icon, and now it's name appears. That is, you can only see one name at a time. Same is true for the right(detail side) of the explorer.
I've removed the video card from the Hardware manager, thinking I could reinstall it, but, without seeing what you're typing, and being unable to browse to the proper folder, I am now stuck in basic VGA mode(16 colors, 600x800res). I tried reinstalling the OS from the recovery CD-no change. Can anyone help? I have all of the CDs that came with the computer, but several attempts at running setup from the recovery CD yielded no solution.

Try download a current driver for your video then remove vidieo card from display properties and reboot system. When it finds new card use the updated drivers.
