Hi. I had a run in with the IdeaCom Technology Inc. - Input - IdeaCom HID Touch Screen (PS/2) update. I installed it thinking it was a driver for my monitor. Big Mistake! I should have googled it first. Anyway after it installed I rebooted and to my horror I lost functionality of my PS/2 mouse. Luckily my mouse was also a USB so I was able to still use it. I looked online and many people who installed this update also had the same problem. I was able to remove the faulty driver from my system and got my mouse functionality back on the PS/2 port. :)

Now I still notice that I have remnants of the tablet PC software on my system. I have already deleted the Tablet PC shortcuts from my start menu, disabled the shell extensions using Shell Ex View and I disabled the Tablet PC Input Service. I still notice that I have this process called InputPersonalization.exe running in the backround when I start Windows. I didn't have this process running before I installed the IdeaCom update. I have to kill this process every time I startup windows. The exe file is located in C:/Program Files/Common Files/Microsoft Shared/ink. Can I remove this ink folder? Will it mess up Vista if I do? I would go into Turn Windows Features on or off and remove tablet PC Components from there but when I attempt to use it I get an error has occurred. Not all the features have been successfully changed. I don't use a tablet PC and I probably never will.

Since I can't remove it using the turn features on or off how do I remove the Tablet PC components from my system manually? Thanks for the help!

I don't know tablet PCs, but with regards to the folder/s you can try renaming them and put them back if unsuccessful.

Have you looked in Start -> msconfig for a startup program/item that can be disabled?

Hey Mattman thanks for replying. I looked in msconfig and I have no other programs that are related to tablet PC. I have done my share of housecleaning in Windows and everything is running fine. I ended up deleting all my old system restore points so I can't rstore my computer before the updates were installed. I also installed a lot of windows updates as well as other updates for my security applications. I will try renaming the ink folder and see what happens.

I tried renaming and deleting the ink folder. Neither which I could do. When I tried renaming or deleting the folder it acted like it was going to delete it but it was in use. So I guess I am stuck with it.

I then tried running this command: regsvr32 /u "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Ink\tipband.dll" to uninstall the tablet pc input panel using command prompt. It didn't work and I got this error message, The Module "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Ink\tipband.dll" was loaded but the call DLLunregisterServer failed with error code 0x80004005. For more information about this problem search online using the error code as a search term.

I really don't know what else to do. Any other suggesstions?

    Only my usuals :D
Try working in Safe Mode, but if it works by the Windows Installer, it won't let you uninstall in Safe Mode (not much point to Safe Mode now, in my opinion:rolleyes:). You may well be able to rename there though.

My usual...reinstall what ever won't uninstall and try again. Look for a different avenue if possible. I never seem to have to rely on command line methods, but Windows seems to be relying on them more often now (my IT professional nephew explained why, but it seems "retro" to me...you may as well go back to DOS).

Try searching at the Technet forums, but they generally cater for developers and administrators, not end users (end users usually mill around trying to help each other :D).

If I get time, I will try doing some searches. Good luck for the moment. Give us any feedback.

    Matt
PS if you can identify an uninstaller file, right click on it and run as administrator.

Most likely not, it's part of the system.

Thanks guys. I figured I couldn't remove the ink folder since its in use by Windows. I'll try and see if I can uninstall Tablet PC components from safe mode. I'll do some more searching around and see if I can find some solution somewhere to remove tablet PC. :)

removing tablet pc on vista ultimate

Did you ever figure out the resolution to this issue? I have previously gone through the same steps you mentioned without success...the uninstall fails in normal and in safe mode. Thanks.

Tablet PC and Defunct Mouse Pad

    Hello,

I too just downloaded Tablet PC with my updates and now I cannot use the mouse pad on my laptop. I am able to use a plug-in mouse. I cannot find a way to restore my laptop mouse and any suggestions would be really welcome. I am total beginner but have tried the following so far: 1)turning off tablet in windows feature - still no mouse pad and 2) stopping and disabling start-up in the Start - Run - services.msc panel - and still no mouse pad function.

Any other suggestions would be most welcome.
Thank you so much for your help,
    Deanna

If you go to Device Manager and uninstall the HID PS/2 touch screen hardware, it will disable the tablet pc startup functions; however, it does not resolve the issue of uninstalling the windows tablet pc features.

Brilliant. Thank you so much. My mouse pad is alive and now I just need to find a way to blast the rest of the Tablet PC files off my computer. Huge thanks. Deanna.

I still haven't been able to get rid of the Tablet PC Components from my system. Like I said in my previous posts the most I could do to disable Tablet PC in my computer was to go into Services by Clicking Start< Run and typing services.msc and disabling the tablet PC input service. I then disabled the tablet PC input panel by disabling the shell extension using shell ex view. But at this point I am stuck and am unable to remove the rest of the Tablet PC from my OS. If anyone has some other input I would appreciate it. :)

This may or may not be something - remember I'm a total beginner. I have managed to delete all the application extension files in the ink folder (at C: program files/common files/microsoft shared/ink. Right click on the ink folder itself and go into properties/security & the advanced button. I have been playing around with the level of security permissions and altering them to give me full control. Prior to this I couldn't delete a thing - but now I can delete all the application extension .dll files. I haven't worked out as yet how to delete the remaining folders with .dll.mui extensions - they seem heavily locked and won't respond to any security changes. This may spark a new thought and be something or nothing.
