how do you remove software that is not in the add/remove programs applet?

...i installed a trial version of WinDVD_Media_Center, but now want to delete it. there was no uninstall option in the menu so i had to remove from control panel.
after i removed it, it was still there (the same icon but different name: IWMC....something like that)....so when i tried to remove that it said that a file was missing....strange thing is that it removed the program from the list.

However, the shortcut on my desktop still works and it is still in Program Files.
i tried to delete it from the program file menu but it says that it is write-protected, so after removing the read-only option i tried again.

it said that (some .dll) file was write-protected...

i tried installing the software again and deleting it, but still no luck.

is there an easy way to delete this program?

well, i went into safe mode and deleted it from the program files folder.

thing is, when i insert a dvd when the options for what programs i want to open the dvd with, the program still appears in the list.
im assuming that it can be fixed in the registry, but dont know where to look.
    any suggestions?

If you don't already have it download Tweakui from MS and go to My Computer > Autoplay > Handlers and delete the entry there.

That's fine - SP2 superseded SP1. Should really read 'requires at least SP1'

Probably because you were unable to uninstall the program conventionally and used 'brute force' :) There will be a reference to it in the Registry, but I would stay out of there! I don't see it as a problem.
