Is it possible to remove search from start menu without disabling search?

Alternatively, and almost as good, how can I change the the order of the items on the start menu, specifically so that search comes after settings, making it possible to open the Control Panel with the 3 keystrokes "start ", "s ", "c "?

I have tried changing HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer\NoFind from 0 to 1 and back.

Did you try right clicking on start| then click on properties under the Start menu tab click on customize. Scroll down to search and unchecking the box. then click on OK then click on apply and ok.

There is no "search" in the list. The list is all verbs: display, enable, expand, scroll, use. None mentions search, The first is "Display Administrative Tools" and the last of 12 is "Use Personalized Menus ".

My apologies you're using the classic start menu. I haven't used XP in a long time. Let me dig up my old win XP manuals and see if I can find the way on the classic start menu setup to remove search

Please don't go to any more trouble over this. I have managed to reverse the order of 'settings' and 'search' on the start menu and that is good enough.

    Thank you.
