I've never had any problem adding fonts but how can I remove them from my font list.

It's my understanding that, at boot, all the fonts that I have installed are loaded and I can save boot time by removing all the ones I don't need.

I have to be careful not to remove any fonts that are assigned to the system. Did that once and had a problem getting it back.

Will using System Restore protect me from that error.?

Rather than removing them, just create another folder, e.g. *bak, and move them there, so you can move them back if and when you need them.

The system fonts are preceeded by a red A in control panel > fonts.

Sounds so simple. You mean, create a folder like "fonthold" under the font folder and just move them --- just llike that?

Think so. Haven't tried it; don't worry about stuff like that. :D

Personally, I don't believe that all fonts are loaded at boot time. I've seen this "tweak" posted periodically but don't believe that it is correct.
Win 3.1 did so (I think) and perhaps Win95, but I don't think the rest of the Windows systems do.

tenbob--I seem to remember that removing certain fonts will disable Windows. Maybe that was older versions of Windows. Cannot find such a reference anymore
Anyway, following up sparrow's suggestion, see here
    http://www.pcworld.com/howto/article/0,aid,114741,00.asp
At the bottom of the page you will see the names of the fonts that should not be moved or certainly deleted.
