I recently bought a new CDRW drive that would only work with Nero software. Nero is not compatible with Easy CD creator. So I uninstalled Easy CD. The problem is that it left a couple of drivers behind that continued to cause conflicts with Nero InCD. Once I renamed these drivers per Nero's support, InCD started working but at the same time XP has become unstable. The files that were renamed are Cdudf_xp.sys and Udfreadr_xp.sys. Is there a best way to keep these files renamed and stablize XP?

    Hello jehousto
Welcome to the boards. When you say that XP has now become unstable, can you elaborate a little? Are you getting any error messages?
I've found this link that speaks of similar problems and a possible solution. Scroll about halfway down the page.

    Hi jehousto,
I haven't read all of the info in Daizys link so you may have found this out.
Nero and Easy CD Creator are compatible, but you must only install ONE packet writing software component, either Nero INCD or Direct CD. I use Nero Burning ROM and Direct CD. I found Direct CD rock solid (stable) for CDRW packet writing compared with INCD. But I prefer Nero Burning ROM for CDR copies. ECDC works fine for CDR copies as well.
I strongly advise running the latest updated from Nero and Roxio's Web sites for their respective programmes as this among others will provide compatability with newer drives.

If you haven't disabled system restore like some (not a good idea, because this almost guarantees you'll need it!
It may be useful to restore the PC to a date just before you installed both INCD and Direct CD. Any other updates and APPS since the restore point (but not data files) will need reinstalling though.

Daizy: the site you referenced is the one that showed me which files to rename to solve my InCD problem. The problems I was having with InCD went away once I renamed the two files. But windows has now become somewhat irratic. The System events log indicates that windows is unable to find the two files I renamed. How do I stop windows from looking for these two files? Or does it hurt anything to let windows to continue looking? I suspect it slows the boot process.

Paul: I did a restore point before I renamed the files. So I could do a restore but then I am back to my CDRW drive not working.
I thought I could uninstall NERO. Reinstall Easy CD Creator and then let windows remove Easy CD rather than letting Easy CD uninstall remove it. I think the Easy CD uninstall leaves some files behind according to other bulletin boards I researched. These left behind files and NERO are incompatible. The CDRW drive I bought is only supported by NERO. I would much rather be using Easy CD but they don't support the CDRW I purchased.

The system stability is irratic. I once got a Win32k.sys blue screen. Another time I got a No_more_IRP_stack_location blue screen. A couple of more times the system rebooted before I saw the error. I am also having application hangs from time to time. None of the errors have repeated. The system has been stable for a couple of days now.

I appreciate you trying to help.
