    When I click on properties I see
    ID as {4CCA4E6B-9259-11D9-AC6E-444553544200}

    code base is
    http://h30155.www3.hp.com/ediags/dd/install/HPInstallMgr_v01.cab

    my guess is it has to do with my HP printer. I did go to their website and let it scan my computer for updates to my printer, a very long time ago. Perhaps that is when this Active X got installed.

    XP SP2 Home Edition

    Hi Alicia, yes that is what that ActiveX entry is, I have the same entry. As far as I know it's safe and is used to update HP devices. You can delete it as you are right it will re-install again if you go to HP's site to update your printer drivers etc. Also will do no harm if you leave it.

    Thanks John. I was going to remove it, actually there are two listings, one is unplugged and both are listed as damaged under dependency.

    Weird. All my Active X say damaged under dependency with a reference to Java. For example it will say 2 files and 0 Java packages. I have updated my Java version somewhere along the way. Is that what caused the 'damaged'?

    I have never heard of "damaged under dependency ". I have frequently updated Java with no problems so that shouldn't be the cause. Have you removed older versions of Java?

    Perhaps someone else will post here with some ideas of what's going on. Hang in there.:)

    I don't know what is going on here - your thread aroused my curiosity and I checked my system (XP SP3, IE 7) and found the same, but all ActiveX works fine AFAIK.
    I think you are misinterpreting the info here - 0 Java packages means that the control does not rely on Java. It is a generic template at the top of all the dependencies box. Very little relies on Java (not to be confused with javascript) and the computer will run fine without Java although certain sites may not be accessible, e.g http://secunia.com/software_inspector/ uses Java.

    If in the main window each control is listed as 'installed' and the accessed date is current I would not worry about it. Given time I will check out my XP laptop and Vista tower and see if there are any differences.

    'For example it will say 2 files and 0 Java packages.'

    That's exactly how mine are Pete. Wonder why they would say damaged? Why not just blank?

    I removed the fix controller that was 'unplugged' John. Today I see it has recreated itself. I'm back to two listings, one Installed and one Unplugged. Weird.
