Hope someone can help - a local computer chain store tech rep could not !

    Have Windows XP Pro
Have Norton Anti Virus (up to date !)

So, Norton found a virus named LostRun.exe and deleted it.
We do a search and that program is not found.

However, when we boot up - the computer stops during the process of loading Windows, and gives this message:

"Windows cannot find C/Windows/System32/Tools/LostRun.exe. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and try again. "

Of course Windoes can't find it - Norton deleted it !

So, there is still a reference to that program somewhere, and the computer just stops with the above message.

How can we locate that reference and remove it so the boot up can continue ?

    Thanks

Boot the comp in Safe Mode.
Locate where the call to load LostRun.exe is coming from, either a startup folder or the registry or a system file. Delete the entry for it.

There are approx 53 different places a program can load from at boot time.
