I downloaded a piece from microsoft so that I can remote desktop from a windows 2000 machine into an xp machine but it only works one way. Does anyone know of a way to remote desktop from the xp machine into the 2000 machine?

Remote Desktop - the client piece you got will only allow other operating systems to connect to XP-pro as you found out.

If you need remote control of other OS versions you will need other software. I suggest you check out one of the many variations of VNC. A google for vnc remote control will turn up quite a few options and while most are free, they don't all offer the same set of features. TightVNC and TinyVNC are popular versions but the others are worth a look as well.

You can also install Terminal Services on the 2000 computer. It allows upto two remote connections at a time.

ericiga - he can and it does.

I was thinking maybe he wanted to see the same desktop as a console user would and TermServ doesn't do that so I suggested a remote control app that does.

TermServ is great if you want to mess with a machine where there isn't a console operator (server usually) or where you want to work without disturbing the console user.

That's true, but you can also run remote desktop from xp by using the following command from the run box.

    mstsc /console

When the remote desktop dialog box comes up and you connect to the computer it will be connected to the console session.

    Man, I love this stuff.

Thanks for the /console switch. Never knew that one existed. In fact, mstsc /? showed me a couple I never knew were available.
