[FONT= "Arial"]OK I need a little help from one of you Vista gurus. I occasionally have been called on to assist other folks to get into a site that requires a little tweaking. Now with my Vista I have no problems and since I have assisted quite a few people with Remote Assistance I know that it works on my computer. I usually take control and it has worked both when I offered and when I was asked. However there were several folks who I couldn't connect to because the connection would not complete and the message was returned "Unable to make connection because the other party has turned off the request" or something to that effect. The screen would come up saying attempting to connect but nothing happens.

Now the other party has made sure that remote assistance was enabled in their System Properties and all the proper boxes were checked so I really don't know where else to tell them to look. It shouldn't matter to me because I always am the one taking control but I hate to leaves something hanging like that.

I was wondering if there was anything I could suggest to these people to look at or something they can do. I know in XP there was the ability to enable the Solicited Remote Assistance feature with "gpedit.msc" however I couldn't find that feature in Vista. Is there another way to enable it besides the System Properties and if so can someone please advise?

Would appreciate any help I can get.
    Thanks

    Hi,

If you might be interested in an alternative to Remote Assistance:
    www.logmein.com
(installs a small program on host and client computer). Edit: the free version can be installed on both computers for simple changes, you may be interested in purchasing the "rescue" edition if you like the program.

Sorry, actually never used Remote Assistance, but the above was suggested to me as an alternative.

Probably the RA port (3389) is being blocked by a firewall. Or if they are behind a router, they'd have to port forward it to the correct IP.

    Hi Sfantasia,
I tried finding information related to your situation and at the moment the best I can find is at www.windowsnetworking.com ...If you can, take a quick look and see if it's of any help...I would of posted it's information here but it's a little lengthy...Some of the information is about the Firewall and DNS issue. Good luck and keep us posted...

    Hi,
Another good source of Information that you may want to check out espicially if there are any Firewall issues is to go to www.pchell.com and look up How to Use Remote Desktop even though you have talked about Remote Assistance...It may or may not be what you are looking for but some times other sources of Information leads me to what I needed.
