    Drive 1 c: e:
    Drive 2: d:

E: is greatly underused and I would like to put my paging file there. I read that it would be best since it would not fragment

The paging file size on C: shows 768-1536

    I have 32 G available.

Can I set my paging file for the entire system on E: thru the contrl panel/system tab and how?

Right click My Computer, Select Properties.
Click on the Advanced tab, then select Settings in the Performance box.
Click on the Advanced tab, select Change in the Virtual memory box.
Set it to 768meg max and min to start with, and move it to wherever you like.
Note that for speed increase, it should be on the first partition of the fastest hard drive in the system. Moving it to a subsequent partition may slow it down a bit, but you'll probably not even notice.
If possible, move things from D to E, so D is empty, and put it on D, then move stuff back. This will place it at the beginning of the drive, and setting the max and min the same insures that it won't get fragmented.
768 should be plenty, and only increase this if you get an "Out of memory" error.

    relocating paging

    My drive 1 is 40 G and 2 is 80 g

I put my system on C on Drive 1 so it is not practical for me to clear D: because there is too much there.

Is making the setting as E: = 768 working as a pagefile for the entire system?

What I can do is unfrag e: and then anything new going into paging will stay in the same place.

    OR ---

What I could do is move what is currently on E: to D:. there are 4 files that are C: drive images from DriveImage. I can then put the paging file back on C, format e: , move the paging file back to E and then move the images back to E; Now the paging will be at the begiinning of the E Partition.

Sounds messy but I think it would work as you suggested. Am I right? :D

Yup, 768 for the whole system, and you could put the pagefile on E, but it would be better on C or D.
Can you not simply swap the contents of D and E, and put the pagefile on D?
It would actually be better leaving it on C rather than moving it to E, but D would be as good, providing that drive is as fast as C.
Of course, this may all be totally redundant, depending on how much RAM you have in the system.

No way swapping E and D E=32G D=80G and a different physical drive.

Why is C better than E

I have 512M RAM - I dont think I actually have a lot running at once but have not kept track of the RAM usage when that IS going oin.

    tenbob,

If you have an hour or so to spare you will find all you want to know - and more in this thread

For my part I would make a new partition on E, say 1 gig and use it only for the pagefile - fixed size 768 Mb.

All this talk of speed, etc - I doubt you would ever notice it !
