I have a Toshiba Tecra S2 notebook. I'm having a few problems with Wifi and as part of my fault-finding exercise I would like to reinstall the driver (version 9.0.1.9) for the Intel PRO/Wireless 2915ABG wireless adapter. I've looked on the Intel site and this adapter is no longer supported so no driver there, and I don't know how to find and install the driver from any other source. It may be lurking on the HD somewhere but even if I found it I would be uncertain what to do to reinstall it. Using Device Manager I see I have options to update (nothing available) or uninstall the driver, but I'm concerned that if I uninstall it I won't be able to reinstall. Any guidance would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

    Hi Alistair,
does anything crop up if you do a custom windows update? or better still have a look at the Toshiba site, there looks like the driver you require #2 on the list of downloads for that model

    With regards "uninstalling "...

If you find the adapter in Device Manager and it has the model number listed (2915ABG) you can uninstall it, it is not deleted from your system. If you restart and the New Hardware wizard asks where to find the drivers, change to the button "I will select the drivers from a list ". You should find it is listed as a compatible driver (or find it under the Intel heading).

It is best to have the drivers available, but if I am certain the problem is with the drivers, I don't see any point in leaving them installed.

It is sad that manufacturers cut support for their older products, it makes me wary of purchasing their products in the future.

I found the driver on the Toshiba site and installed it. I presume this would have overcome any faults in the old driver. No improvement to the operation of wifi (previously discussed on another thread) so I'm coming to the conclusion that my wireless router/printer server has an intermittent fault and is on the way out. I'm going to try another one soon.

Thanks to Jac & Matt for the replies.

It sounds like you are resigned to the fact. If it was me and I had the drivers available, I would uninstall everything related to the wireless. Look for any related software in Add/Remove Programs.

I don't know about Toshibas, I deal with Lenovo/IBM machines and they have an associated program called Access Connections, I uninstall that program (and reinstall with a later version) as well, when troubleshooting the wireless.

There was a problem with one of the Windows Service Packs regarding wireless. You may want to investigate that
