Resolved Reinstall XP Home

Hello all -

I need to do a repair reinstall of WinXP Home. I have the Dell reinstall CD but I no longer have the key code. Does it erxist somewhere in the Windows folder where I can gain access to it?

Checking "My System" won't help because the computer in question isn't my computer. It belongs to my Elks Lodge.

Hi Mike,

Strictly speaking you should have a sticker on the case with the key, however you can use Magical Jelly Bean Keyfinder to discover the key which is currently in use... Be aware (as I'm sure you are) that illegal/incorrect use of keys can result in a crippled system.

 

Belarc Advisor will also give you the KEY CODES. It will give you a lot more info also.

Both the Magical Jelly Bean Keyfinder and Belarc Advisor did the trick. I think I'll be keeping Belarc Advisor, though. I had it years ago and it became an invaluable resource at one point. It's quite a tool.

Now all I have to do is get up the gumption to do the "repair ". We are changing the system program that the Elks Grand Lodge uses to keep track of members nationwide. I've been waiting for that to happen for a very long time and I don't want to foul it up.
