Reinstall windows me

I am having trouble with some programs in windows me. One problem is I cannot access Window Media Player. I downloaded the new version and now they keep telling me to reinstall. My System Tools is now longer on my Program list. My task launcher in Microsoft Works is a problem. If I just reinstall windows will I lose all my other files or will it now affect other files?
I read some forums where people have reinstalled but they seem to have problems after the fact. If I can is it a big deal or should I get someone to do it?

 

You could try using one of your Restore Points and rolling the computer back to where it was working right.
