 Arie, if you see this, I'm sorry but did not know were to ask. I am looking for a good registry repair program and expect a awfull lot of hits on this question. Can anyone recommend a good program? My system is getting slower than mollases running uphill on a winter morning and also now getting a auth. to change box, like you get when leaving a secured site every time I turn around. It's a real pain. If need be, I can go into the registry and make the changes after running them down, but got a belly full of that when I had to manually remove McAfee one time. I need a good program that will make the needed changes and also allows me to save the changes in case there is a collision in the registry causing very little fun, and I have to restore.

I will just suggest our own Registry First Aid program.

I'm sure others have their own favorites.

    Hi Arie,

Registry First Aid looks interesting, seems like a good idea, Downloaded it to try, and it won't run on XP64 because "unable to run ntbackup.exe ". The file ntbackup.exe is present and runs for me. Installed RFA both off system disk and on with same result. Dual booting, so told it to look only on current system disk. Suggestions?

    Hi charlesvar,
Been using regseeker, but it's not as sophisticated in appearance and hopefully in function. Occasionally have unpleasant surprises with regseeker which, as someone has said, quickly makes one an expert. :D

A 64 bit version is being worked on. But I can not provide you with a date when we can expect to provide it and support for it.

One user with a 64bit system made a comment that they had changed the backup/restore file names as you have found out. So RFA would not be able to create those and you would need to do so manually.

The same user said the program other than it that area appeared to perform normally

    Hello Tom,

No renewal fee. Do have to pay for upgrades.

    Regards - Charles

    Registry Use

:( Thanks CHARLESVAR one that I downloaded said free trial and wouldnt correct main problems utill registered and then notified that would have to be re registered each year. Not just update/grades. Other people may want to keep an eye out for that. Will give RFA a download and a try. The one on there now has an uninstall, do you think it will give any problems with the registry.

    Hi Tom,

My version is 4.1.0.707 and the last I will get for XP.

The yearly registering may be new then, probably for DRM purposes.

I shut down any net access for RFA (check for updates) and shut down start on bootup.

To answer your question on safety: I think RFA is safe, but make sure you have the option to create a restore point set and the RFA's backup working.

I went ahead and downloaded RFA. It defaults to back up option. Installed with no problems, so far. I set it at 100 strings per run and thought I was going to have lunch at the machine. If anyone else buys it, they maybe should set it at a little higher number. I like the way it gives you an option as to what you want to do with each key and backs it up into a log even if removed so you can reinstitute. I highly recommend the product. Thanks to you and Arie for the recommendation.

    Hi Tom,

I'm glad you're happy with it, I certainly have been with the various versions since 2001.

    Updates are free

All updates to RFA are free -that is if you are a V4.0 registered user all updates up to and including 4.9 are free to you.

When a V5 is issued registered users of any version of Registry First Aid are entitled to an upgrade discount which is currently 40%.

The cost you pay is per version series - that is V4 etc ... if you wish to use V4 for many years it will continue to work for as many years as their is a compatible Windows to run it on without any further cost.
