A couple of months ago there was a mod published in PCWorld that was supposed to modify the RtClick on an email. It was to give you choice of loading the URL into either Internet Explorer or Firefox. I am including it here. I didn't type it in but did Copy it from the PCWorld webpage. It does not work and I don't know why. Instructions specifically were to include quote marks in the filename when saving. It did seem to be accepted by the Registery when dbl-clicked in the file list.

That "Open with Firefox" Registry hack (go.pcmag.com/openwithfirefox) is great, but I use Firefox as my main browser with plenty of extensions installed. Once in a while, a page will not open correctly with Firefox, so I open it in Internet Explorer. How can I make it so that I can right-click a link and open in IE?

Hordes of Firefox faithful requested this tweak, and it's another easy one. Carefully type (or Copy/Paste if you're reading this online) the five lines below into Notepad.

    REGEDIT4
    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\InternetShortcut\shell\IEOpen]
@= "Open with Internet Explorer "
    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\InternetShortcut\shell\IEOpen\command]
    @= "\ "C:\\Program Files\\Internet Explorer\\iexplore.exe\" \ "%l\" "

Save the file as "IEOpen.reg ", including the quotation marks. Double-click the file you created to merge its contents into the Registry. Now when you right-click a URL shortcut, you'll have the option to open it in Internet Explorer rather than your default of Firefox.

this did not create a tab in Firefox. However, it did create an item in the context menu to 'view in IE' but it did not do so. Just loaded another window in FF.

In the FF window do you have the status bar being viewed?

View>click on status bar. It will appear at the bottom of the window with a FF icon. Click on the FF icon and it will change the page being viewed to IE and the status bar icon will change to the blue IE icon.

    Works for me.....

I hadn't tried the click on the icon in the status bar and that did switch me. I am not sure whether that will fix the incompatibility in webpages witn IE and FF but will find out.

    Thanks

    tenbob,

If you are using the extension "IE tab" (current ver is 1.0.9.5) in Firefox and click the icon in the status this uses the actual IE code to display the page, so it should correct any display problems you are having with a particular webpage. You can even set it up to use for Windows Update. :D
