I am having an odd registry error on my hard drive. I used Registry Mechanic and has fixed it says all my errors but 1 still says there is one that cant be fixed. How can I get this fixed or is another drive a better and easier fix.

Do you know exactly what the errors says... Do you know exactly which reg entry needs fixing and what the correction should be?

If NOT, leave it alone. There are millions of entries in the registry and fixing/removing a few thousand isn't going to help anything.... AND you can destroy your pc if you remove One to many entries.

As Steve said... Registry "fix" software is just a placebo: Cost money and fixes nothing (specially if you have no idea what needs fixing).

Uninstall the software & you'll be good to go!

A few more details, how do you know the registry is being corrupted, ignore what your registry repair software is reporting, what issues do you see?

You are not alone with this issue as seen by a Google search here. I suggest you read through the hits which suggest several causes including this thread in which the hard drive was faulty .....

    Error C000009A applying update operation 119595 of 334565 (\Registry\...) when loading SP1

It would be a good idea to check out your hard drive using the manufacturer's disk diagnostic software (DOS version from a bootable CD) .....

    Disk Diagnostic Software ....

    ExcelStore

    Hitachi/IBM

    Samsung

    Seagate, Maxtor, Quantum

    Western Digital

    Toshiba

I scanned my hard drive with the Seatools for Dos both long and short scans. It passed them both. What should I do now.

Well i did do another thing i was suggested first off was turn on safe mode and do a check disc scan with the command prompt. It says The master file table's (mtf) bitmap attribute is incorrect. The volume bitmap is incorrect. Windows found problems with the file system. Also it says Run CHKDSK with the /f (fix) option to correct these should I do it here or is there another way and better.

This is Microsoft's take on your error message .....

Why am I receiving "Error 0xC000009A" after installing Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1)?

By all means run chkdsk /f on the C:\ drive - you can give the command through the Command Prompt in Windows - chkdsk will run on the next boot as indicated on the screen.

You may need to use an elevated command prompt ....

Orb > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt - right click on it > Run as Administrator.

This may or may not resolve the problem from what I read.

Pete, I'm starting to think of a dodgy Hard Drive. Would you concur?

chaosmachine it won't do any harm to run seatools on your barracuda.

It may be worth checking out your hard drive using the manufacturer's disk diagnostics:

    Seagate, Maxtor, Quantum
