    Help!

    For the past two days, my system has been so slow it hardly does anything anymore (it takes up to 10 minutes to open a Web page), my Norton anti-virus and internet security seem to have been "magically" disabled and each time I shut down the system, I get a box that pops up telling me "RegFilter.exe DLL initialization failed. "

    What gives? Any ideas? Is this some new sort of virus that is wreaking havoc on my system and slowing everything down to a snail's pace?

    Thanks in advance from a very concerned user...I appreciate any and all helpful suggestions.

    From what I can gather by a quick google.com peek, this is related to Norton, possibly Norton's "Firewall security ". Regfilter.exe is tying up the cpu by using (98% to 100% of the cpu resources.)

    At least I can point you in the right direction by suggesting you go to Symantec's support site and serach their knowledge base for your particular Product Version, using regfilter.exe as a keyword filter on your search quest.

    This may envolve an unistall and a reinstall of Norton.

    You can do a file find for regfilter and rightclick check it's properties and see if it's a Norton/symantec related file.

    To check if it is, indeed tying up cpu, do a key combo of cntrl/alt/del for taskman. Check the processes atb ".

    ========
    In the mean time, this link and it's sublinks may help to better explain the problem. Note that the sublinks for Symantec are Norton version specific.

    Works great, thanks

    Thank you for the help. Much appreciated. Uninstalled Norton IS, rebooted, then reinstalled the program. Works fine. Norton says this is a problem they're aware of, although they have no official explanation or fix.

    Thanks for taking the time to help me out!
