This doesn't happen on any other site I visit, but when I visit a community website I'm a member of I hear a refresh click every fifteen seconds. If I open another page from the site I get another refresh sound every fifteen seconds as well. This means that I get two refresh clicks every fifteen seconds. It's very irritating! Can this sound be stopped at my end of things or is this something that must be dealt with by the webmaster of the site? It's a reputable family site, by the way.

No doubt something embedded in the page that is refreshing using active content "“ possibly an advert. Try clicking the STOP button on your browser and see if this kills it. It sometimes works for me, but it will depend on what type of active content it is that is causing it. Can you give us a link to the page?

  3. to hide this advert.

Aha, I see. So it might be one of the adsverts? Here's a link to the site http://ldsirc.net/ Logging in is not necessary to hear the refresh click every 15 seconds, by the way.

Well, I don't hear any refresh clicks at all. The ad banner at the bottom of the page continually refreshes - clicks may be something to do with your popup stopper - I have IE's off and Google Toolbar on, but that is not complainng :) No real idea being unable to hear any clicks.

The interval is nearer 30 seconds now. The thing which makes me believe that it's only to do with the site mentioned is that I don't get these refresh clicks with any other site. At the bottom of the browser page where it has the security settings globe and the zoom level, it also has 'Done' in the left corner which changes to 'Downloading banner, picture, etc.,' when the click sounds.

Yeah it's the Ads refreshing. There's over a dozen scripts etc in the page but this is the URL you need to block
    Code:
    http://ldsirc.net/openads/www/delivery/afr.php?
Either block it in an advert or content filter, or you could just add http://ldsirc.net to the restricted sites zone in your browser, but then other things on the page or site might not work.

As you said, adding the site to my restricted sites list just prevented the site from working properly. I downloaded a free programme which eliminated banners
http://www.download.com/Popup-Free/3000-7786_4-10594781.html but this also had the same side effect. I think it slowed down my browsing too. I think that I'll just unsubscribe from the site (or just visit it briefly each day rather than being logged in constantly). Thanks everyone for your input nevertheless. I suppose sites need advertisements to finance them. That's life!

Just an afterthought: I have no problem with the ads refreshing, but is there any way that I could stop the frequent audible clicks when they do so? Can the webmaster do anything or must I just turn my volume to nothing?

You can turn the Click sound off, but it will apply to all mouse clicks.

    Control Panel>Sounds and Audio Devices>Sounds
Change the 'Start Navigation' event from Start.wav to None.

Thanks for that. I'll leave things as they are, however.

    :)
